How You Achieve NOS
How You Achieve NOS
1. NOS Integration
The United Kingdom’s National Occupational Standards (NOS) are integrated into each SwissCAS⁺ programme to ensure alignment between learning activities and the development of professional competencies.
2. Converting KSB into Competency
SIMI translates the Knowledge, Skills, and Behaviours (KSB) defined in the National Occupational Standards (NOS) into measurable professional competencies within each SwissCAS⁺ programme, ensuring that learning outcomes align with the demands of real-world professional environments.
3. Mapping Competencies to Learning Outcomes
Each competency is translated into specific and assessable Learning Outcomes, creating an academic foundation aligned with professional competency standards and workplace expectations.
4. Internal Quality Assurance (IQA)
SIMI conducts Internal Quality Assurance (IQA) across all modules and assessments to maintain academic integrity, consistency, and alignment with SIMI’s qualification standards and relevant United Kingdom qualification frameworks.
5. External Quality Assurance (EQA)
Each learner submission undergoes a final review under the External Quality Assurance (EQA) process conducted by independent external evaluators. Depending on the programme, EQA may be carried out by Ofqual-regulated Awarding Organisations in the United Kingdom or relevant Chartered professional bodies.
6. Recognition of Results and Award of SwissCAS⁺
earners receive the SwissCAS⁺ certificate together with an official transcript. SwissCAS⁺ may be accumulated towards the SwissMAS (Master of Advanced Studies), an advanced postgraduate qualification within the Swiss Higher Education Continuing Education system.
Swiss Higher Education Continuing Education System
Swiss Higher Education Continuing Education (Hochschulweiterbildung) is structured into the following qualifications:
- CAS (Certificate of Advanced Studies): A short postgraduate programme focused on a specific professional field, typically requiring 10–29 ECTS credits.
- DAS (Diploma of Advanced Studies): A medium-length postgraduate programme that builds upon CAS, usually requiring at least 30 ECTS credits.
- MAS (Master of Advanced Studies): A comprehensive postgraduate programme requiring at least 60 ECTS credits and typically including written assessments and a master’s thesis.
- DRAS (Doctoral Advanced Studies): An advanced professional programme typically requiring at least 90 ECTS credits. It represents progression beyond MAS and usually includes Level 8 (doctoral-level) coursework and written assessments without a doctoral dissertation as required in traditional academic doctorates such as a PhD.
Important Note:
Note: SwissCAS⁺ is a Swiss Certificate of Advanced Studies within the Swiss Higher Education Continuing Education system (Hochschulweiterbildung) and is designed for professional development. It is not a national academic degree and is not positioned as an academic title.
CAS programmes in Switzerland are professionally oriented qualifications intended for workplace competency development. As such, they do not automatically confer academic recognition, progression rights to academic degree programmes, or the right to use academic titles under the regulations of any country. Recognition and use of SwissCAS⁺ remain subject to the regulations and independent decisions of employers, professional bodies, authorities, or receiving institutions.
SwissCAS⁺ does not fall within the scope of evaluation or comparison services provided by Swiss ENIC. This reflects the structural distinction within the Swiss education system between academically oriented higher education and professionally oriented continuing education.
Credit or tuition transfer from SwissCAS⁺ towards higher-level programmes, including MAS, is governed solely by the internal regulations of SIMI Swiss and is not an automatic entitlement. Participation in SwissCAS⁺ indicates that learners understand and accept the nature, limitations, and framework of the programme.
