SwissCAS⁺ is a postgraduate Certificate of Advanced Studies that enables learners to accumulate transferable credits and apply part of their tuition towards a Master of Advanced Studies (MAS), a leading qualification for professionally oriented postgraduate education in the Swiss higher education continuing education system.

Depending on the programme, learners may be offered the opportunity to participate in academic support sessions designed to help review key concepts and prepare for the SwissCAS⁺ competency assessments.

Teaching assistant sessions and academic support classes are supplementary and entirely optional. These sessions do not deliver the SwissCAS⁺ programme, do not intervene in academic content, and do not affect the integrity of the programme. All academic and administrative decisions remain solely under the authority of SIMI Swiss.

Complete the SwissCAS⁺ assessment.

Learners complete competency assessments aligned with the relevant national competency frameworks for each programme, in order to clearly demonstrate the competencies achieved during their studies.

Internal Quality Assurance (IQA) review.

Each submission is evaluated and graded by the lecturer and subsequently reviewed under the Internal Quality Assurance (IQA) process of SIMI Swiss. See more HERE.

External Quality Assurance (EQA) review.

Each submission may be subject to External Quality Assurance (EQA) by an independent external assessment organisation. Depending on the programme, this may involve Ofqual-regulated Awarding Organisations in the United Kingdom or relevant Chartered professional bodies. See more HERE.

Recognition of Results and Award of SwissCAS⁺

Learners receive the SwissCAS postgraduate certificate issued by SIMI Swiss together with an official transcript.

Learners should retain all assignments and assessment records for future credit transfer when progressing to a Master of Advanced Studies (MAS).

Transfer Credits and Tuition towards MAS

Swiss MAS (Swiss Master of Advanced Studies) is a postgraduate programme within the Swiss higher education continuing education system, designed for professionals seeking advanced, practice-oriented qualifications.

After completing SwissCAS⁺, learners may progress to the MAS programme without repeating the credits already earned. Credits accumulated through SwissCAS⁺ can be recognised within the MAS structure, allowing learners to build towards a full Master of Advanced Studies qualification.

SwissCAS⁺ graduates may also apply a significant portion of their previously paid tuition towards the MAS programme delivered by SIMI Swiss. The progression pathway from SwissCAS⁺ to MAS is available within two years of completing SwissCAS⁺, subject to academic review and alignment with the MAS programme structure.

Swiss Higher Education Continuing Education

Swiss Higher Education Continuing Education (Hochschulweiterbildung) is designed as a flexible, modular framework for professionals seeking advanced qualifications while continuing their careers.

CAS (Certificate of Advanced Studies): A specialised postgraduate programme focused on a specific professional field, typically requiring 10–29 ECTS credits.
DAS (Diploma of Advanced Studies): A more comprehensive postgraduate qualification building on CAS, usually requiring at least 30 ECTS credits.
MAS (Master of Advanced Studies): An advanced postgraduate degree requiring a minimum of 60 ECTS credits, typically including written assessments and a master’s thesis.
DRAS (Doctoral Advanced Studies): An advanced professional qualification beyond MAS, usually requiring at least 90 ECTS credits and incorporating doctoral-level coursework and assessments without a traditional PhD dissertation.

This modular structure allows learners to accumulate credits progressively and advance from CAS to MAS within the Swiss Higher Education Continuing Education system.

Important Note:

SwissCAS⁺ is a Swiss Certificate of Advanced Studies programme within the Swiss Higher Education Continuing Education system (Hochschulweiterbildung). It is designed to enhance professional competencies and is widely used within professional and workplace contexts. SwissCAS⁺ is not a national academic degree in the traditional sense and is not positioned as an academic title.

Due to the professional orientation of CAS programmes, which are intended for workplace development rather than academic research, a CAS qualification—whether obtained from a public or private institution in Switzerland—does not automatically grant academic recognition, the right to pursue academic degree programmes, or the right to use an academic title under the regulations of any country. The recognition and use of SwissCAS⁺ depend on the regulations, policies, and independent decisions of each organisation, employer, professional body, authority, or competent institution in the relevant jurisdiction.

SwissCAS⁺ does not fall within the scope of evaluation, comparison, or recognition services provided by Swiss ENIC. This reflects a structural characteristic of the Swiss education system, where a clear distinction exists between academically oriented higher education and professionally oriented continuing education.

The transfer of credits or tuition from SwissCAS⁺ towards higher-level programmes, including MAS, may only be granted in accordance with the internal regulations of SIMI Swiss and shall not be considered an automatic entitlement for all learners. SIMI Swiss reserves the right to review the learning content, assessment results, completion timeframe, and programme compatibility before approving any transfer.

Participation in the SwissCAS⁺ programme constitutes acknowledgement that the learner has read, understood, and accepted the terms, limitations, and characteristics of the programme within the Swiss Higher Education Continuing Education framework.
